Conflict Resolution

Handling disagreements and disputes constructively using words, negotiation, and problem-solving.

Examples & Achievements

  • Uses words instead of physical actions to express displeasure
  • Suggests a compromise ("you can have it first, then I'll have a turn")
  • Seeks adult help for conflicts they cannot resolve independently
  • Walks away from a situation that is making them angry
  • Apologizes and makes amends after hurting someone

How to Measure

  • Resolves a minor peer conflict without adult intervention (observed 1+ times per week)
  • Uses words first (rather than physical action) in 70%+ of conflicts
  • Can suggest at least one compromise when prompted
  • Teaching Strategies GOLD Objective 3a (balancing needs and rights of self and others)
